3M Unitek Orthodontic Dental Nurse of the Year 2009

Congratulations to Helen Louise Watson who won £300 and the title of Orthodontic Dental Nurse of the year 2009. Helen works in a Specialist Practice in Cockermouth, Cumbria. Helens presentation described How Dental Nurses can take Impressions. She described what training was needed, how the practice achieved this and how this course has been taken up by the dental nurses in the area.

Second place went to Lisa Drzymala(pictured) from Manchester Dental Hospital with her presentation on Hand Hygiene and the Orthodontic Dental Team. Lisa described the need for hand hygiene, and how this has evolved into monthly audits and annual training. Lisa wins £200.

Third place went to Lisa Gallagher who wins £100. Lisas presentation was on the setting up of a Twin Block support club for their patients. They have developed colour progress charts following a traffic light system to monitor patients progress Lisa works at a Specialist Practice in Dundee

Congratulations to the other two entrants, Kimberley Mitchell who presented on her Thumb sucking clinic. Kimberley comes from a specialist practice in Bath and also to Helen Knight from a Specialist Practice in Ashford Kent. Helen spoke on relapse and retention and patients complying with the regime advised to them on fitting of retainers.
